Marble Falls man shares frustration with Tesla insurance after April hailstorm

Zane Weathers’ Tesla Model 3 was severely damaged in the April hail storm that hit Marble Falls.

“I was actually driving it when it was happening,” Weathers said. “It’s got like three, four inch holes in it.”

Being insured by Tesla, he quickly filed suit.

“I sent everything in, and he said your claim has been submitted, and he gave me an adjuster,” Weathers said. “They said I would hear from them in one to two weeks.”

Instead, Weathers said it took a few months for him to receive an email from an adjuster simply telling him he had been assigned.

Now, nearly three months after the storm, he’s still waiting to move on.

“I’ve been trying to call twice a week for two months and his voicemail is full,” Weathers said.

He also called the office line, and tried to submit a new claim to get a new adjuster, but was told that was not an option.

In recent reviews Better Business BureauCustomers described similar experiences with Tesla insurance, such as waiting for months and not being able to reach their adjuster.

According to Texas Department of Insurance, the number of Tesla property and casualty policyholders in 2023 was 77,328. TPC is an entity operating in Texas.

National Association of Insurance Commissioners data shows that in 2023, 28 complaints were filed about Tesla property and casualty in four states, including Texas. 10 out of 28 were related to “claim handling” and “policyholder service”.

For now, Zane Weathers plays the waiting game, but it’s his only means of transportation.

“I vacuum the glass, but it just falls off the ceiling, he said.”
