Jay Slater’s family are considering a fresh appeal to Brit police to help find the teenager after being ‘blindsided’ by a search ax

JAY Slater’s desperate family are again considering asking British police to help find the teenager after Tenerife cops called off the search.

The 19-year-old’s loved ones were left “blindsided” when detectives on the island eliminated the victim less than two weeks after Jay disappeared.

Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared on June 17 while on holiday with two friends.

While the ground search was called off on Sunday, police on the island insisted the case was still very much open.

Investigators have vowed to continue the investigation and look into any new tip-offs or information that come in.

But the decision to dramatically cut off the search is a “nightmare scenario” that Jay’s family was “horrifying”, a source close to him revealed.

His parents Debbie Duncan and Warren Slater and brother Zak feared there would be a scramble to find an apprentice bricklayer this weekend.

Some 30 police, firefighters and rescuers all took to the Maskana Mountains – along with a handful of volunteers – for a “final push” on Saturday.

But the hunt, which was centered around Jay’s last known location, failed to find any trace of the teenager.

A source in the UK, who is in regular contact with the family, told The Sun: “Jay’s family knew the search would eventually come to an end. They get it.

“But it was a nightmare scenario they didn’t want to think about. And it wasn’t something they thought would happen right away.

“So the decision to take just two weeks later has left them upset and upset.”

A friend of Jay Slater has caused further confusion by claiming the teenager had met mystery men days before spending the night at an Airbnb and disappeared.

The source said Jay’s family “doesn’t believe” police have searched everywhere possible for clues.

They have vowed to stay in Tenerife to continue their search, which they fear will be blocked by evil trolls.

The insider added: “Jay’s family can’t help thinking the trolls have won and they’ve got their way.

“Many people are putting horrible messages out there which has added to the family’s agony.

“They will not stop looking for Jay or give up.

“They will stay in Tenerife and do everything they can to keep the momentum going and find Jay.”

Jai’s family – who are grappling with vile fake ransom demands – are also considering other options to continue the hunt.

The top investigator working on the Madeleine McCann case has urged Jay’s family to use £45,000 donated by well-wishers to fund a private search.

Former cop Mark Williams-Thomas – who flew to Tenerife to help with the search – said the GoFundMe cash could be used to draft in a team of experts.

Jay’s family may request British police to get involved after Tenerife authorities refused their help.

Police on the island insisted they had the resources needed for the hunt before putting out a call for volunteers for Saturday’s final search.

The source added: “They are trying to get in touch with groups in Tenerife and beyond who specialize in missing persons.

“They might even try to appeal again to the British police to help. They don’t understand why the police in Tenerife don’t welcome the extra help and assistance that was being offered.

“What did they have to lose? Jay’s family could accept this if every stone was left unturned. But it doesn’t seem so.”

The devastated family still have no answers as to what happened to Jay – who has not been seen or heard from since June 17.

Jay disappeared after a night out at the NRG Festival at the Papagayo nightclub in Playa de las Americas.

He was last seen traveling with two mysterious men in rural De Tano Park in the north of the island.

Jay made a final frantic phone call to pal Lucy Law at 8.50am on June 17 to say he was stranded “in the middle of nowhere”.

A panicked Jay, returning to their hotel after an 11-hour walk, tells her that he needs water and that his phone only has one percent of battery left.

Another friend of his, Brad Hargreaves, revealed another call in which Jay told him he had veered off the main road – leading to speculation he may have slipped down the cliffs.

During the final video call, Brad said he could hear the missing teenager scrambling over the rocks.

The disappearance sets off a frantic round-the-clock search, with his heartbroken mother and family heading to the island to join the hunt.

Rescue crews concentrated their efforts around the 2,000-foot Maska Gorge near Jay’s last known location — the deserted Teno Nature Reserve.

On Thursday, they shifted their focus to the caves near Los Carrizales – about an hour and a half’s drive from Jay’s Airbnb with two men on foot.

But on Sunday, the search ended as police announced they would no longer search the mountainous terrain for Jay.
