Here’s the latest on CDK outages and what to know about cyberattacks:
What is CDK?
CDK Global is a company which provides software For thousands of car dealers in the US and Canada.
The company, based outside of Chicago in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, provides dealers with software technology that helps with day-to-day operations – such as facilitating vehicle sales, financing, insurance and repairs.
According to the company, CDK serves more than 15,000 retail locations across North America. It was not immediately clear if all these locations were affected by the cyber attacks.

The company shut down all its systems in the following days out of an abundance of caution and has not been able to fully restore operations since then.
CDK Group reportedly told its dealers that they are unlikely to come back online before the end of the month on June 30, a critical time to meet sales quotas.
USA Today reported Friday evening that some dealerships were looking to restore their system, and Automotive News Report Attempts to reboot that Saturday morning were ongoing.
Are affected dealerships still selling cars?
Some major auto companies Stallantis — including Ford and BMW — confirmed to The Associated Press last week that some of their dealers were affected by the CDK outage, but sales operations are continuing.
In light of the ongoing situation, a Stellantis spokesperson said on Friday that many dealerships have switched to manual processes to serve customers. It involves writing orders by hand.
A Ford spokesman added that the outage “may cause delays and inconveniences for some dealers and some customers.” However, many Ford and Lincoln customers are still receiving sales and service support through alternative channels used at dealerships.
The White House brushed off questions about Biden’s age. Then there was a discussion.
Are customers affected?
With many details of cyber attacks still unclear, consumer privacy is also top of mind.
If you bought a car from a dealership that uses CDK software, cybersecurity security experts stress that it’s important to assume that your data may have been breached.
