The Bar Council of India conducts AIBE examinations twice a year for law graduates who are willing to start practicing law in the country. The purpose of the exam is to access the knowledge of law graduates and set a benchmark to enter into law practice professionally.
The candidates who clear the examinations are awarded with CoP, which is mandatory for law graduates who wish to practice law in any court of India. The qualified candidates would get the right to practice law for two years only under the provisional enrolment, so the candidates can take the exam as many times as they want.

Age Limit:
- The BCI has not set any age limit for the AIBE examinations.
Educational Qualification:
- Applicants must possess a law degree from an institution or University recognized by the Bar Council of India.

- Candidates registered with the State Bar Council as advocates is mandatory. Candidates must pass the AIBE examination within two years of their enrollment in any state bar council to receive the COP.
AIBE 18 Exam Pattern 2024
The AIBE examinations follow the Multiple Choice model, conducted offline at various centers nationwide. The candidates can choose the medium of the AIB Examinations from many languages besides Hindi & English like Gujarati, Urdu, Punjabi, Kannada, Tamil, etc.
The duration of the examinations is 3 and a half hours, in which the candidates have to answer 100 questions from 19 subjects/topics of the law, such as Constitutional Law, Company Law, IPC, Cyber Law, Evidence Act, Intellectual Property Laws, and so on.
The weightage of each topic is different in the examinations and there is no negative marking for the wrong answer.
