Kennedy, 31, is the first to win the title at an age above the previous limit of 28, which was lifted by the Miss Universe Organization. She also openly discussed her transgender identity and its impact on her life

Kennedy is a sociology graduate from the University of Maryland and has been an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and mental health awareness. She has also been involved with the USO and supports military spouses

Kennedy's journey began with local theater productions and participation in pageants. She was inspired to compete after her marriage in 2019 and the lifting of age and marital status restrictions by the Miss Universe Organization

Kennedy felt supported by the "sisterhood" of women on stage, despite being the only transgender contestant. She expressed confidence in her own skin and acknowledged the significance of her win for the LGBTQ community

Kennedy is set to compete for the title of Miss USA in Los Angeles on August 4, 2024, aiming to make history as the first transgender woman to win the title

Kennedy hopes her win will pave the way for greater representation and acceptance within society, encouraging LGBTQ+ kids to "be themselves." Her victory is seen as a "landmark moment" for the transgender community

Kennedy's win has inspired others, including former Miss Maryland USA Christina Denny McDaniel, who hopes Bailey's achievement will inspire people to stand tall in their truth and not let anything hold them back in pursuing their dreams
