Georgetown, Texas – Three Central Texas cities topped the list of the most expensive places for seniors to live in the state, According to a new study by Seniorly.
Seniorly’s study shows that making that decision can come with a heavy price, at least in Central Texas.
“Because of inflation, you’re looking at the cost of everything,” said Marlena Del Hierro, vice president of partnerships and business strategy at Seniorly. “From the caregivers in these communities to the milk in the community. We want to make sure our families have as much information as possible and can make the best decision for their loved one or for themselves.”
It found that Georgetown, Austin and Round Rock made up the top seven most expensive cities in Texas for senior assisted living. Georgetown is ranked number one in the state and 43rd in the nation.
“Real estate in Georgetown, real estate in certain areas can be a higher amount than certain areas in Austin, and then, again, you’re going to look at demand,” Del Hero said. “If Georgetown, for example, they’re full and they don’t have as many options as Austin, the cost will go up. Now, I’m not saying it is, but that could be another factor.”

This reality is one that Serita Lacasse knows well. “The cost of living for seniors is out of control right now,” Lacasse said.
Lacasse is the executive director Senior Accesswhich provides free transportation to Central Texas seniors to doctor appointments, grocery stores and more.
“We help them stay in their homes as long as possible because they can’t go to assisted living.”
He also understands the cost of aging on a personal level.
“When it affects your own family, it’s a whole different ballpark,” Lacasse said.
After losing her father two years ago, her mom transitioned to assisted living. “It’s been a whirlwind,” Lacasse said. “You think you know everything and you really don’t.”
That’s why she and Del Hierro urge people to find resources and community that can help make the senior years a little easier.
“There are a lot of other things and other services in your city that exist, and almost help plan,” Del Hierro said.
“Don’t think you can do it all by yourself,” Lacasse said. “It’s okay to ask for help.”
